DeLaval teat spray robot wins AgTech Breakthrough Award

For the second year in a row, DeLaval has taken home the AgTech Breakthrough Award. We’ve been recognised as the ‘Overall Agriculture Robotics Solution of the Year’ at the 2024 AgTech Breakthrough Awards for our TSR2 teat spray robot.

Jeff Hahn, DeLaval’s Solution Manager for Rotaries in North America, says: “This award is a testament to our dedication to providing dairy farmers with innovative agricultural technology by utilising cutting-edge robotics. With the TSR2, we aimed to redefine teat spraying by combining precision, speed, and reliability. This new robot is 20% faster than the first model and can spray up to one cow every six seconds or 600 cows per hour, setting a new industry standard for efficiency.”

Introduced in late 2023, the TSR2 optimises the critical task of pre- and post-teat spray application for rotary milking systems, offering improved cow health and safer, faster operation—all of which contributes to less labour and better cash flow. The TSR2 uses advanced camera technology, DeLaval InSight™, mounted on a robotic arm, leading to superior teat identification and spray accuracy of up to 99%. This intelligent application helps ensure the right amount of teat dip is applied to each teat, rather than the cow’s udder, promoting optimal teat health and reducing infection risk. By automating the teat spraying process, the TSR2 also reduces the environmental impact associated with manual labour and improves resource efficiency. The robot’s precision application minimises the use of teat dip products, further contributing to sustainable farming practices.

Fernando Cuccioli, Executive Vice President – North & Latin America, DeLaval, adds: “More than 1,900 nominations were submitted for this year’s awards programme – Wow! Congratulations to all our teams – from product development, engineering, supply chain and those in the field, including our dealers and sales and technical support teams – for making it possible for everyday dairy farmers to benefit from labour and cost savings through sustainable innovations like the TSR2.”

The AgTech Breakthrough Awards team researches, analyses, and recognises the breakthrough leaders in the most competitive technology categories. All award nominations were evaluated and scored by their expert panel of judges, representing a mix of technical, business, academic, and marketing expertise within the industry.
